Big Island Offshore Safari: Snorkeling with Whales, Dolphins & Sea Turtles

The unparalleled geological position in an area of up-welling ocean currents between lava-flow and two of the deepest ocean trenches on Earth establishes an environment as a biological hotspot. Snorkeling among all the Big Island habitats there will be a wide range of both residents and migratory animals to see. The creatures that will possibly be seen during the big island boat trips are a spectrum of awesome:

Playful Marine Mammals: Keep a close eye out for energetic pods of Hawaiian spinner dolphins and Pacific bottlenose dolphins that frequently ride our boat's bow wake. During winter months, majestic humpback whales migrate thousands of miles to calve and play in our warm tropical waters.

Gentle Giants & Reptiles: Swim in the vicinity of graceful reef manta rays, elusive spotted eagle rays, and the beloved Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu) lazily grazing on rock-boring urchin-lined shallows. On rare occasions, lucky guests might even spot a critically endangered Hawaiian monk seal.

 

Colorful Reef Fish: The shallow coral heads burst with color from Hawaii’s official state fish, the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (reef triggerfish), brilliant yellow tangs, Moorish idols, trumpetfish, longnose butterflyfish, and schools of convict tangs. and morish idols as well as trumpetfish, and long-nosed butterfly fish schooling with shoals of convict tang's.

 

Intriguing Invertebrates: See cunning day octopuses (he'e) that are masters of camouflage over the black rock or look through the lava holes of holes, peek-a-boo! Masked moral eels as well as Hawaiian puffer-fish navigating the waves

  • A towel- You’ll want one after your swim! Custom towel ponchos are also available for purchase at checkout.

  • Prescription snorkel mask- We do not provide prescription masks. If you need one, you must bring your own or rent one in advance.
